Personal Statements with Original Figurative Art
Figurative art – art that shows the human form, in one way or another – is a popular choice for the walls of one's house. Whether it's a portrait, a nude or a modernist piece, figurative art can add a human dimension to the decoration of a room: a refreshing and often individual change from the landscapes, still lives and abstract works that so often adorn the empty spaces above sofas, armchairs and bureaux.
Figurative art works because it displays the form most known to us – the Human Body. Humans are naturally interested in other humans: their expressions, their moods and emotions. Figurative art, in capturing these moods, captures the essence of what it means to be human. When one looks at a piece of figurative art, one is acknowledging not just its aesthetic appeal, but a deeper relationship – a relationship, perhaps, that can only be described by the word "sympathy".
What a person sees, when they encounter a piece of figurative art, is often a reflection of an emotion or experience they have had themselves. Whether the artist who painted the figurative art intended that or not is almost of no consequence – all that matters to the viewer is that the work in question seems to make a statement: that the artist, too, has felt this emotion or experienced this experience. In this way, figurative art becomes a form of visual sympathy – in that viewers of figurative art experience sympathetic emotions with the person or persons depicted.
Figurative art comes in all shapes and colours, from Picasso-style cubist renderings of the human face (which often make deeper statements about human emotions and the human psyche than "realistic" depictions can), to "straight" depictions that display people in environments or sitting for portraits. A lot of figurative art, of course, is reproduced from famous masters which is fine up to a point: but it does lose that original feel that one tends to strive for when feathering the nest.
It's possible to purchase original figurative art – and with the magic of the Internet, it's even possible to pick up genuinely good original figurative art for fair prices. Sites like UK-based art2arts, which deals in pre-vetted (for quality) Original Art of all formats, have figurative art for sale that a buyer will not find anywhere else in the world. Great stuff, in other words, for adding that touch of uniqueness to a room or home.
These sites sell one-off pieces of figurative art that have been commissioned by the site owner: or even bespoke pieces, booked in advance by patrons. Buying bespoke figurative art means you don't just get something unique – you get something that has been painted for your home, personally, according to colour schemes and even designs laid out by you. And that means the final piece really is perfect for the person commissioning it. In a way, bespoke figurative art allows normal people to play the role of 15th century patron, commissioning pieces by their favourite artists to decorate their "palaces".
With bespoke figurative art, everyone wins. The commissioner gets a totally individual piece of art for the wall – and the artist gets exposure. That's something money never used to be able to buy – until now.
