Don't Sacrifice Quality in Canvas Art Prints
Canvas art prints are a friend to any decorator. When choosing artwork to decorate a space the quality of the print itself is almost as important as the image itself. Canvas art prints offer more versatility and durability than any other medium at an intermediate cost. Professional artists frequently produce, or reproduce their work digitally and present it as canvas art prints.
The primary concern is the quality and type of canvas. Many digital printers use non-acidic soy based ink, which in combination with a non-acidic substrate, will produce archival Quality Canvas art prints. Not all canvases are UV stable, though, so if a print is to be exposed to direct sunlight for an extended period of time, a higher quality canvas might be worthwhile. Different types of canvas have different textures as well. A client is more likely to find that they have too many options than that they cannot find what they want.
If the print in question is Very Large, that might affect the choice in materials as well. While digital printers that are capable of prints up to sixteen feet wide are common, many canvases come in rolls of eight, ten or twelve feet in width. While splicing two prints together is an option, it limits the ways that one can later mount and display a canvas art print.
Color reproduction is a non-issue. The technology involved is at such a state that a skilled technician can reproduce any colors imaginable. Most printers have eight different colors of ink that are mixed together digitally, allowing complete control, good consistency and vibrant tones that weren't an option even fifteen years ago. The resolution or dot size has advanced in great leaps as well. Digital canvas art prints can faithfully reproduce anything from bold Modern Art to legible text to photographs to the subtle works of master painters.
Perhaps the greatest strength of the canvas art print is its physical durability and the wide range of options for displaying it. A paper print is not durable. Paper degrades in a few years, or mere months in the sun, and can be tacked flat or framed. Canvas, on the other hand, has qualities of both paper and a fabric. It can be trimmed flat and framed, like paper, or stretched on a frame like an actual painting. A printer will be able to suggest even more innovative options.
Adhesive can be applied to the back of a canvas art print so it can be used as a striking wall treatment. Canvas art prints can be stretched over three-dimensional frames or mounted to clear surfaces. There are also a multitude finishes that can be applied to the surface of the canvas to ensure that exactly the desired effect can be achieved, no matter what it is. The possibilities are virtually limitless, and individual print shops are constantly looking for new innovations and ways to make their work shine.
The texture available in canvas art prints makes a huge difference as well. At only marginally more than a lower cost print, the texture of the canvas gives the impression of quality. Indeed, a layperson has a hard time distinguishing between a print and an actual painting, even though canvas can be printed for less money in much less time than is required for a hand reproduction.
Canvas art prints offer an incredible value for the cost. They offer enduring pieces of art, limitless options and variations and allow anyone to possess any beautiful work of art imaginable. While no one can realistically afford an original Van Gogh or Warhol, a stunning reproduction is within anyone's reach. Quality is key when decorating, and canvas art prints represent an option that does not feel like a sacrifice.
