Nature Jewelry Glass Pendant Necklace
One of the most popular types of jewelry throughout history has been glass jewelry.
A lot of glass jewelry is in the shape of beads and pendants.
The first use of "glass" by early man was in the carving and shaping of simple cutting tools, made with a naturally-occurring volcanic mineral known as obsidian. This opaque black material was ideally suited for the making of sharp objects due to its conchoidal fracture, which facilitates the "sharpening" of obsidian (glass) to near molecular thinness. The word "glass" was derived from the Latin term glesum, and the Germanic word glessum, both referring to the transparent material known as amber.
And Glass beads have been made for about 9,000 years. They come in all shapes, colors, finishes, appearances. For most of their history, glass beads were more than a craft, more than an art.
The first glass beads discovered are of Sumatran origins and were dates from around 2400 BCE. Another evidence of early beads is, inscriptions that were found on Egyptians amulets dating from around 2200 BCE have the word "cha" which means happiness, and the word "cha cha" means bead.
