Ouroboros Dragon
Symbols have always been worn as jewelry with different purposes like unity, fertility, to lure forces of evil away from the bearer and other things like that. A symbol of unity can be found in the ouroboros dragon pendant. This is a representation of the Gordian knot, but with ouroboros dragon biting his own tail.
What shape does ouroboros dragon pendant have? It can be obtained on a Torus tube that resembles a donut or a sphere which turns in from one side coming out on the other, all in a perpetual motion. There are lots of mathematical formulas and equations in a Torus tube. Its use in science was as a geometric or mathematical pattern of the universe. It was also used extensively in sacred geometry.
I mentioned the Gordian knot pattern followed by the ouroboros dragon pendant. You may wonder what that is. Legend has it that Gordias was a Phrygian farmer. One day, on his plough, an eagle landed. That was considered a sign from the gods as he would one day become king.
There was a time when the Phrygians found themselves with no king. They consulted the oracle about what they should do. He told them the first man that would ride up to the temple in a cart should be acclaimed as king. Gordias was that man and he was riding in his ox-cart.
After he became king, Gordias founded the city of Gordium. This city became the Phrygian capital. In the acropolis, his ox-cart was preserved and an intricate knot secured its yoke. That knot was named the Gordian knot. According to the legend, the one that could untie the knot would rule over Asia.
In the year 333 BC, a Young Man attempted to untie it and when he couldn’t find the end of the knot, he sliced it in half. The name of that man was Alexander, but we would know him under his full name Alexander the Great. The solution he chose to unravel the knot was known from then on as the Alexandrian solution, which signifies choosing a bold stroke to solve an intractable problem.
Who was Alexander the Great? He was a Greek king, son of Philip II of Macedon, and could pride himself as being one, if not the most successful military commanders in all history. Before he died, he succeeded in conquering most of the world which the ancient Greeks knew.
Alexander lived up to the prophecy of the one who unravels the Gordian knot. He expanded his empire by conquering the Persian Empire, including Phoenicia, Anatolia, Syria, Judea, Egypt, Gaza, Bactria and Mesopotamia all the way to the Punjab.
There have been lots of disputes about the way Alexander provided the solution for the knot. There is also some significance attributed to the knot as a cipher signifying the name of Dionysus, guarded by priests and revealed to the kings of Phrygia.
