The Beauty of Metal Etching with Advanced Machines
Metal etching, which has been in existence since the days of yore, is becoming popular by the day. This is more so, with the most recent innovations in machines that are used in this technology. The most recent addition to this are computerized etching machines that can easily etch even the toughest of materials like stainless steel, brass etc.
The etching of any metal offers a great visual appeal apart from making it more useful. Some machines today also make the use of additives like CERDEC. It is a chemical, which creates a permanent black mark when applied to uncoated metal using a CO2 laser engraver. This is ideal solution for identifying your products as well as for offering a great look to them. Take for example a simple pair of stainless steel scissors. You can use this technique to mark them with your name, logo, etc. when CERDEC is use on it for metal etching; it would generate contrasting marks on this carbon based metal.
So, how does the etching process work? Well at the very outset, the part that has to be etched is sprayed with a chemical and then allowed to dry. The etching process then begins – either rater marking/vector marking is used depending on the base metal, which needs to be etched. After the process end, the excess chemical that sticks to the metal base can be removed by water and a soft cloth. It is very important that the base metal where etching is to be done is properly scratched for lasting effect. Moreover, while cleaning the excess CERDEC material off the lasered part, you should always use a soft cloth not an abrasive pad, as it may damage the effect.
Among the various places where metal etching is used most widely are in personalizing tools. This etching technology helps in identifying them and also in adding a personalized touch. Another area where this is being used widely is jewelry making. Most popular of the lot are Italian charm bracelets that can be personalized using this technique, which involves detailed marking in a small area.
This is also used in getting competent RF Shields and EMI Gaskets. However, before availing the services of any metal etching company, it is advisable that they are fairly experienced in their work. They should etch in such a way that the mark left behind is long lasting and that it can resists such factors as acid baths, abrasive environments, and other heavy impact.
