Fellowes Pouch Laminators - Choosing the Right Laminating Machine For Your Needs

What Are You laminating? How big is it? Fellowes laminators are available in three different widths and are good for different projects.
- Photo size. These laminators can laminate documents up to 4" wide. They're good for laminating small objects such as pictures and business cards. The Fellowes EXL 45-2 is a good choice when laminating small documents and was especially designed for this purpose.
- Document size. Items with a width of up to 9.5" can be laminated with this size of machine, such as personal papers, business documents, etc. The Fellowes' Mars ML, Cosmic CL, and Saturn SL lines are all capable of laminating documents of this size.
- Large format. These laminators can handle items up to 13" inches wide, including calendars and menus. The Fellowes Saturn SL, Mars ML, Jupiter JL, Venus VL, and SPL 125 can all handle bigger documents.
- How often will you be laminating? If you're an individual planning to use your laminator only a few times a month, purchasing a Fellowes machine designed for personal use is a good choice. (Options include the EXL 45-2 and Cosmic CL.) However, if you (or your employees) will be using your new machine more often, higher-end models such as the Jupiter JL 125 and Venus VL 125 were specifically designed for frequent office use.

How durable does the lamination need to be? Laminating your document requires laminating pouches. The thinner the pouch, the more flexible your document will be once it's laminated. Pouches come in the following four thicknesses:
- Standard (3 mil) and Medium (5 mil). This is good thickness for laminating documents that will be handled occasionally, such as photos, legal documents, and recipes. The EXL 45-2, Mars ML, Cosmic CL, and Saturn SL can laminate items with these thicknesses.
- Rigid (7 mil). Rigid pouches should be used on items that are handled frequently, such as sales documents and calendars. The Jupiter JL 125 can accommodate items in 7 mil pouches.
- Extra rigid (1/8" board and 10 mil). This is the ultimate thickness and is best used on signs, posters, and reference documents. Use the Venus VL 125 or SPL 125 if you need this amount of rigidity.
- What features do you want? Safety is an important thing to consider when choosing a laminator, especially since the machine can sometimes get hot. Some Fellowes laminators, such as the Cosmic CL and Saturn SL, are equipped with the company's patented HeatGuard Technology. Machines with HeatGuard have double-walled insulation to keep heat in, making the machines safer to use - especially with kids. Safety is an important thing to consider when choosing a laminator, especially since the machine can sometimes get hot. Some Fellowes laminators, such as the Cosmic CL and Saturn SL, are equipped with the company's patented HeatGuard Technology. Machines with HeatGuard have double-walled insulation to keep heat in, making the machines safer to use - especially with kids. As for additional features, you might allow want a machine that heats up quickly (the EXL 45-2 heats up in five minutes), laminates in a flash (the mars ML laminates a letter size document in one minute), or one that's stylish (check out the Cosmic CL).
