Basics tips for portrait Painting
Most often, a portrait captures a model (person or animal) from the shoulders up that focuses on facial features. Oil painting portraits are one of the most famous paintings type for experienced painters. The beginners can also learn to paint portraits using oil paints if are trained and given right instructions and tools. Portrait painting can be learned with practice.
Here in this write-up, we will discuss some tips how you can finalize a picture or photo into a portrait using oil, acrylic or watercolor:
1. Get ready with Canvas: First of all prepare the canvas by using white gesso (white paint mixture consisting of a binder mixed with chalk, gypsum, pigment, or any combination of these). Then spread it onto the canvas.
2. Make a Sketch of the Photo or Picture: Take time to concentrate over the photo or picture you are going to paint a portrait for. Observe it clearly, though you have already decided before the preparation of portrait painting. Make a sketch of the painting. You can create blocks/grids on the actual photo or picture. It will give you some measurement for the each and every line you will draw with paint.
3. Decide Your Paint Medium: Now you have to decide what your paint medium is. You can choose according to your comfort of using the type of paint. You can use oil, acrylic or watercolor.
4. Layering and Brush strokes: Now move to creation of layers. You should know that bottom layers need to be dry faster than the top thicker layers. You can apply bottom layers very thin so that it can get dry soon. It is very important to apply brush strokes appropriately and rightly. With oil paint you can give your portrait a magical touch.

But for many, portrait painting comes as an interest and initially taken as fun but gradually it becomes their hobby and for many it develops into one of the survival aspects of their profession.
