Some Crucial Printing Reminders for Amateur Poster Designer
So you are new to designing for Print Posters? Let me give you a few crucial poster printing reminders. If you want your poster designs to easily be accepted by your poster printing company, you should follow these reminders. These will help you avoid amateur mistakes in poster printing, as well as make your Color Poster turn out looking more professional. So read on and learn.
1. Go for standard templates – As a designer, you should really use standard poster templates when you can. I know that using customized and different style posters is usually a better idea, but if you are an amateur and want that poster printing to go on without a hitch, templates are the best tools. They will provide the standard poster dimensions and guidelines that will make your poster draft easily acceptable for most poster printers. They should be able to handle those drafts quite easily, making the poster printing faster and easier.
2. Check your printing bleeds – For poster printing, it is also important to check your poster printing "bleeds" in the design. Bleeds in a poster draft are basically those extra spaces that are reserved for discrepancies in the cutting process for the posters. You should always have printing bleeds so that all your color posters can look great even if the cutting process of the poster printer is not that precise.
Printing bleeds can vary, but a quarter of an inch extra for all sides of your custom poster should be enough. Take note that some poster templates actually have printing bleeds already. So try to check first before adding in your own.
3. Check your image resolution – Another important reminder for designers is the image resolution for poster printing. Not all images are the same, and the resolution of these images can play a big role in the appearance of your poster once the design is printed. Typically, it is best to use High Resolution images right from the original sources such as cameras and image scans. Web based images are not really recommended since they usually get pixelated once printed into a color poster. So always check your image resolutions before going through with your poster printing.
4. Choose materials wisely – You should also try to learn about the materials used for poster printing, so that you can choose them wisely. The paper and ink for poster printing can really change the look of your design once it is printed. That is why it is crucial that you know what kind of paper and ink, affects your design in the best way possible.
Typically, it is great to use glossy paper materials and glossy inks to make your poster design gleam with the light. However, some poster designs might require tougher more durable materials to make them last longer. So ask for your material options in poster printing and choose wisely among them.
5. Check your poster printing company – Finally, always try to see if you can get a great poster printer. Sometimes, even with the same options the quality of the poster will vary depending on the skills and the machines of the poster printing company. So it is best to always check a printer and their work before hiring them for poster printing. Always try to hire the ones with the best machines, design guarantees and printing samples. With a good poster printer, your great designs should come out to shine just like you want to.
