Picture and Graphic Guidelines for Color Posters
In all kinds of poster printing it is important to always be careful with your choice of picture and graphic raw materials that you will insert into your designs. Not all images you acquire will be ideal for poster printing. There will always be differences in the aspects of these images that might make your Print Posters look odd and misplaced when put together.
So to help you out in dealing with your pictures and graphics for poster printing, I have here your list of standard picture and graphic guidelines for Color Poster designs. Follow these guidelines well and you should be able to maintain a good quality design with the proper images that give the best impact.
• Mind the resolution – First and foremost, it is crucial that you always mind the resolution of your raw images and pictures. The higher the resolution of your images, the better they are for color posters. I recommend that you do not use images from the Internet since they are typically in low resolution format. If you do get images from the Internet however, make sure you get the largest ones you can find to compensate. Any image that is 300dpi or higher should be ideal for a poster printing design. These images should scale well in the layout and they will not look fuzzy or distorted when printed. So make sure you mind the image resolution.
• Mind your cropping – Another important guideline to remember is to mind your cropping. A proper image for color posters should always be cropped pretty cleanly. If it is a rectangular image or graphic, the lines should precisely match what the image is displaying. If the image or graphic however is irregularly shaped, then the edges should be clean cut with no obvious pixels that are out of place. So make sure you clean up all your raw images and pictures with the most precise cropping tools. This will be crucial for the quality of the poster designs.
• Match the color quality – Color quality also plays a factor in the images of poster design. For example, some images can have a vivid quality to their colors making them bright, while other photographs might be a bit more toned down. Combining those two into one color poster design might look awkward since both will decidedly mismatched with the other. So make sure you choose the proper images that match in color quality. This should help your poster designs look more coherent and one with the main theme.
• Scale properly – Also, never forget to scale all your photographs or images properly. One common mistake that many designers commit is to scale their images badly. This leads to distorted and unnatural looking images that will make the color posters look amateurish. So make sure you scale those images in fixed formats so that whatever size you change them to, the proportions look the same. That is why it is important to know your design software for poster printing and use the proper scaling tools in them.
• Integrate with precision – Lastly, you should always try to integrate all those images and photographs with precision. Do not just insert them and pile them up altogether. Be natural and precise with your image placements and make sure that those different graphics look like they belong together. Try to adjust lighting values as well as add certain textures so that those images look more and more matched with each other. As long as you integrate those images properly to your color poster designs, they should look quite well and powerful as one design element.
