Why Is The Red Rose So Unique?
The red rose is more than merely a flower, it indeed has become the sign of love. Its occurrence is felt and seen the world over in any kind of art form, be it poetry, painting, and photography.
In truth, the existence of the red rose in our life is so strong that if you ask anyone, and I truly mean anyone to close their eyes and picture a flower in their mind, you can be certain that it is the image of a red rose!
Another interesting fact regarding the red rose is that it is accepted by all as the emblem of love, regardless of their customs or belief.
Whereas roses in general are related with love and romance, every rose color do hold a distinctive and specific meaning. Hence, any rose would make a nice romantic gift but for one to offer a red rose is clearly to make a declaration of love!

Passion and Myth
Alike many of the flowers now found in Europe as well as other western countries, the rose was first imported from Asia.
In olden China, at a time where magical beasts were wandering the land, one was particularly feared and that was the dragon Ryu (its name may vary depending on the folklore legends ^^). This dragon was really almighty and only destruction was left after its coming. No need to tell you how terrible the situation was when the dragon was to hit during your marriage ceremony.
That was until somebody by chance found out that the dragon was scared of one thing, and one thing only: the red tint!
Understanding this fact, the Chinese quickly began to dress in red for their wedding costumes and also beautify in red.
Now you know why the red color is so important and predominant in Chinese culture.^^
Anyway, the rose always have been treasured for its beauty. Having it part of wedding ceremonies only increased its association to love and romance, and through the myths, the red rose of love was born.
The Red Rose Today
In our present days, away from heroes and dragons, the red color is still a pillar of Chinese customs and the red rose a worldwide symbol of love.
Beyond love, the red rose in occidental countries has come to express deep passion too, making it the flower gift of choice for events such as Valentine's day or any time one needs to make a pristine declaration of love to somebody.
Conversely, when it comes to wedding, in the western culture the red rose of passion has generally be substituted by the white rose of purity; but that my friends is a different story...
