Designer Favorite List Of Photoshop Effects For Posters
If you are new to poster printing and would like to use Photoshop for your color posters, then here is the best list that you should know about. I have listed down here the most favorite Adobe Photoshop effects that poster designers like to use. These are all the essential effects and features that can help anyone create great looking color posters with relative ease using Photoshop. So read on and take note of all these effects.
1. Posterize! Of course, the basic effect that you should know in Photoshop to make your color posters really look like posters is the effect known as "Posterize". As the name suggests, this effect basically adds that slightly grainy effect common to some of the more older poster designs. You can find this effect under the Image->Adjustments option named as "Posterize..." You can of course adjust how intense the effect gets through some customization sliders when you activate this effect.
2. Opacity effects. Another great effect that is useful for Color Poster designs are opacity effects. The opacity is basically a function of how opaque or transparent a layer is. Sometimes, great poster design effects can be done when one layer is slightly visible under or over another layer. This gives ghost like effects or even watermark effects that really work well for many concepts. For subtle detailing of backgrounds and elements, using this effect is perfect for poster printing.
3. Photo filters. Under the image adjustment options, you might also be interested to use the photo filters adjustments for your color posters. This adjustment lets you add a certain color mask to your image. If you like those "Sepia" effects that simulate older photographs, then this is basically the effect that you want for your custom posters.
Not only does this filter let you add the Sepia effect, you can even use a warming or cooling filters or even custom colors to achieve the same effect just with different hues. There are many applications to this and they are great for making certain backgrounds or even developing specific layer effects.
4. Artistic filters. Now, if you like your whole poster to look more artistic, you can also use the artistic filters in Adobe Photoshop. You can find this under the Filters-> Artistic option. With this filter you can add great artistic effects such as Colored Pencil effects, Film Grain effects and many other filters that make your posters look like a more modern work of art. Of course, you can easily adjust how intense the filter gets through the use of different individual controls.
5. Stylize filters. Another kind of filter located under the filter menu are the stylize filters. This does not really add artistic additions to your custom poster design, but it manipulates the design itself to add a certain kind of interesting effect. Some of the common stylize filters include the embedded contour effects, wind effects and solarize effects.
6. Sketch filters. If you want your color posters to look like they were sketched using a variety of drawing materials then this is the filter group that you want to explore. You can basically convert your posters into a charcoal design, a graphic pen, a photocopy type print and lots more effects. This is great for making certain image elements look like they were drawn by someone.
7. Texture filters. Finally, if you want your color designs for your posters to look like they were printed on some kind of material, then the texture filters are what you should play with. Texture filters basically add a certain type of "material" to the whole layer of your design. You can make it look like it was printed in canvass, in stone, in brick and many other types of textures. Some people even download extra textures to make really specific effects. This is great if you want to simulate different materials within your color poster design.
With all these seven little interesting effects, your color posters should be really well designed with very eye catching elements. Of course, use all these effects with taste and do not overdo them. Learn to use them properly and at the right types of layouts.
